Friedrich von Hayek

Friedrich von Hayek was a philosopher from the early 1990’s. He was best known for his defence on Classical Liberalism against Socialism. Hayek once said “Even the striving for equality by means of a directed economy can result only in an officially enforced inequality- an authoritarian determination of the status of each individual in the new hierarchical order.” I believe that we should embrace Hayek’s ideologies on a free market economy. With a free market economy a supply and demand system in theory would benefit all. Laissez-faire economic is a big part in free market and Hayek strongly supported it. Most liberal thinkers believe in a free market system, as a liberal thinker myself I believe in the ideologies of Friedrich von Hayek. Though free markets did not work for some countries like Russia, I believe if run properly this ideology will better the economy. Economic freedom, completion and individual rights and freedoms are only a few on the classical liberalism ideas that benefit from free market systems.
What is a free market? A free market economy is one in which the government is highly restricted. Thus cost and availability of products are primarily determined by supply and demand, with little or no influence from taxes, tariffs, and other government regulation. The biggest advantage that a market-oriented economy enjoys is the determination of a unique price determined by the demand and supply. The decision of what to produce, for whom to produce and in what quantities is taken by the market forces and not determined by the state. The role of the state is limited to ensuring proper transparency in the prices charged by the sellers of the concerned commodity. Prices also have the function to allocate and distribute a country's resources. In a "perfect world", free market leads to complete efficiency bringing about the optimal distribution of a country's resources. This would only happen in a state of equilibrium or when demand equals supply.

Laissez-faire economics is the belief that economic imbalances are self-correcting, not requiring intervention by government so long as the equal rights of individuals are respected. The Laissez-faire principle is also referred to as the principle of Spontaneous Order or the Invisible Hand of the Marketplace. With Laissez-faire it provides people with the individual right to buy and sell as they please but with support from a capitalist supporter. I believe this help run the free market more smoothly.
Soviet Russia attempted to gain economic growth by opening a free market system. This later turned Russia’s economy upside down and landed their entire country in poverty.  This particle attempt at free market never worked because when demand is high you are sub post to increase tax spending and when demand is low you are sub post in decrease tax spending. The government never lowered tax spending when demand was low therefore making people bankrupt. The government was sub post to give up more control but never did; this in itself never gave the free market hope to succeed.

Hayek had the right idea with supporting a free market. If executed properly the free market idea could benefit the economy more. People rather be in control then being control so having little government control would give people more economic and individual freedom, making people more happy. I believe that with a liberalism background Hayek was right with stating have socialism would not work because people don’t like when the government has too much control. Even though the free market has been attempted by countries like Russia and failed I strongly believe it could work if the government would give up a little of their power and control.

Lacombe In 30 Years

As Lacombe’s population grows larger over time there will be more opportunities to better the equality of life. With a larger population there will be a larger demand for hospitals and schools which will increase the amount of jobs available. With having a larger hospital there will be a greater chance that Lacombe can have better and newer technologies at the hospitals. With having these newer technologies Lacombe can have a better health care system.
Lacombe is a great place to settle down in. The population in Lacombe will mostly consist of young families and senior citizens. With the young families they will want more and better education systems available for their children. There would be more secondary languages like French and Spanish and maybe even Chinese down the road. With more senior citizens staying in Lacombe there will be a better senior/ retirement homes available for them to live in.
Lacombe may lose the nice small town feel that many people love and enjoy but in the next 30 years Lacombe won’t ever feel like a big city like Calgary and Edmonton.

I believe that proportional representation would best serve the interest of Canada. Voting for a specific party rather than a specific candidate would better suit the average Canadian citizen. We tend to vote for the character we like better rather than the party. The people don’t really see what the party will offer because most people can’t see past the specific representative.  Sometimes the smaller parties will have better opportunities for Canada and with parliamentary democracy the small parties have no hope in getting into parliament.
If Canada would have to have a authoritarian government Canada would benefit more from a Oligarchy.  Having a small segment of society with political power would be better then and absolute monarchy and military dictatorship. With oligarchy governments there is a better chance that one person will not take all the power and destroy the economy.  I don’t believe Canada would do well with an authoritarian government but Canada has some good citizen so there would be a better possibility that a good segment of the society would guide Canada political in a good direction.

Representation VS Authority

Representative Democracy:
Similarities- Proportional representation, parliamentary democracy and republican democracy all use a voting technique to elected government power.
Competition is accepted
Differences: Proportional Representation citizens vote for a party rather than a specific candidate, republican democracy vote for a president and the president chooses his vice president and each state has two senators. Parliamentary democracy elected executive branch needs support of elected legislative branch.
Proportional representation representatives are assigned according to level of popular support (percentage of vote) rather than parliamentary democracy were as long as you win more ridings you will get more seats.
Unlike Republican democracy and Parliamentary democracy proportional representation is more successful with smaller parties.
Competition is accepted
Authoritarian Governments:
Similarities-Military dictatorship and one party states both promotes unity.
Economic freedom is accepted
One party state and oligarchy both governments are run by one party.
Competition is rejected
Differences- Military Dictatorship is run by the military while oligarchy and one party state are both run by one party only.
Competition is rejected
Representative Democracy VS Authoritarian Government
Similarities- Representative democracy and authoritarian government both use propaganda to get you to vote for their parties. Representative democracy use subtle commercial while authoritarian governments use a more of a brainwashing technique.
Differences- Authoritarian governments use terror on behalf of the government to get there parties to power while representative democracy uses a fair vote to get there parties to power.
Economic freedom is rejected
Authoritarian governments can be at term as long as they like while representative democracy has set terms that one person can be at power for.
Rule of law is rejected
Parliamentary Democracy- UK and Canada
Republican Democracy- France and USA
Proportional Representation- South Africa, Israel and Venezuela
Monarchy- Iran
Oligarchy- North Korea
One-party state-China
 Military Dictatorships-Burma

I do believe that Canada has the right to protect the New Democratic system in Afghanistan. Canada helped destroy the government system that was in place so its Canada responsibility to fill the loss of government power with something more stable.
We shouldn’t take full responsibly though, there should be limits. I don’t believe that Canada should be shelling out billions of dollar for this. I think other countries should step up and help share the responsibility. It wouldn’t benefit many other countries if we could get Afghanistan under stable conditions.
